The Art of Organic Growth: A Woman’s Way of Doing Business.

Updated: Nov 22

In a world that celebrates hustle, speed, and scaling at all costs, I’ve learned that true, sustainable growth—especially as a woman, a mother, and a community builder—often looks nothing like the traditional business model. It’s not linear. It’s cyclical. It’s relational. And most importantly, it’s alive.

Rooted in Intention

When I first began building what would become Kanoo Wellness, I didn’t have a five-year financial forecast or a corporate marketing plan. What I had was heart. I had a vision of creating spaces where people could reconnect—with their bodies, with each other, and with the land. I had my yoga mat, a community hall, and the belief that something sacred could grow from the soil of community care.

From those early yoga classes to today’s network of offerings—from Mystic Moon Sisters to Canoe Kids Adventure Club—everything has unfolded organically, like roots finding their way to water. Growth didn’t happen through aggressive marketing or hustle culture. It happened through relationships—through women gathering in circle, families connecting in nature, and elders showing up for chair yoga.

Building a Business That Fits My Life

One of the most powerful lessons I’ve learned is that your business should fit your life—not the other way around. As a mother of three, I needed flexibility. I needed to be able to build something that could move and flow with the rhythms of motherhood—school drop-offs, sick days, family time, and moments of stillness.

That’s what organic growth has allowed me to do. I’ve built my business in alignment with my energy, my seasons, and my values. I no longer chase the image of success that requires me to sacrifice my wellbeing or my time with my children. Instead, I’ve created work that exists within my life—within my working hours, my boundaries, and my truth.

Redefining Success Through Education and Experience

For a long time, I thought success looked like finishing my degree, checking the boxes, and following a traditional path. I worked incredibly hard to go to school and complete my education because I believed that was the key to becoming successful.

And while that chapter required sacrifice, it also opened my eyes. Through my studies, I learned how to think critically, how to research deeply, and how to question everything—especially the systems and stereotypes that define what it means to be a successful woman in her community.

Education taught me more than facts; it taught me how to see differently. It gave me the courage to push boundaries, to build something that doesn’t fit into anyone else’s mold, and to create a business rooted in connection, creativity, and care.

The Heart of Organic Growth

Being a woman in business, I’ve come to realize that success isn’t about scaling fast or fitting into someone else’s definition of achievement. It’s about growing something that reflects your values—something that’s sustainable, meaningful, and true to who you are.

Organic growth is about trusting the process, trusting the people, and trusting yourself. It’s about allowing your business to evolve at the pace of your own becoming.

So to every woman building something from her heart—keep going. Let your business grow like a garden: rooted in love, nurtured by community, and blooming in its own time.
